RES Exam Day: What to Expect & What to Bring

Knowing exactly what RES exam day looks like takes a lot of the nerves out of it. Here's what to expect and how to be ready.

The format

  • Two papers — Paper 1 and Paper 2, each 2.5 hours.
  • Each paper has Section A (60 multiple-choice) and Section B (20 multiple-choice based on case studies).
  • It's a computer-based test (CBT), so results come back relatively quickly.
  • You need at least 60% in each paperto pass — a strong Paper 1 can't make up for a weak Paper 2.

What to bring

  • Your original NRIC / photo ID for verification.
  • Your exam confirmation / registration details.
  • Arrive early— latecomers may be denied entry, and you'll want time to settle.
  • Check the latest rules from the exam administrator (NTUC LearningHub) on permitted items, as these can change.

Managing the time

Section B case studies are where people lose time. Read the question first, then the scenario, so you read for what matters. Don't over-dwell — flag tough ones and move on, then return.

Be ready before the day

The single best way to walk in calm is to have already sat full timed mock exams and to have drilled the tougher Hard Mode case studies — so nothing on the paper is a surprise. For the full study plan, see how to pass the RES exam.
